Koretta's Story

Life As of April 1st I had to return to Columbus, OH to take care of my mother, who lost her hearing in 2006 and I also had to return to the midwest to be more accessible to my dad who lives in Michigan and has suffered several minor strokes. I had no desire to return to the midwest, but I only get one set of parents and I want to be sure that I am doing everything that I can for them now while they are still here. I have many friends and associates who no longer have their parents so I feel that it is a blessing just to still have my parents and be able to help them in anyway that I can. I have 3 1/2 years of college, majoring in Journalism, then 5 years ago I decided it wasn't for me so I returned to school after moving to Riverside and I graduated from Maric College in Riverside, CA March 3, 2008 and will be returning to school starting April 28th. I kicked my fiance to the curb because as my pastor would say he didn't have any "act right" in him! I am still going into ministry which has been my calling since I was a small child but it will have to be in Columbus, OH. I will still be starting a mentor/sponsorship ministry for homeless women (especially single mothers) and survivors of domestic violence. But my Pastor's wife will complete what I was so blessed to start in Riverside while I launch forward here in Columbus. Columbus is not so bad and besides I've never had a problem landing a great job here. I still love my life in Christ and I am doing everyth...Expand for more
ing that I can to be an excellent mother to my kids and daughter to both my earthly parents as well as my Heavenly Father. By the way, I still have no inclination whatsoever to attend a class reunion or any madness of that kind! School I would never, ever disclose who my favorite crush was!!! However, my favorite teacher of all time is none other than Mr. Panos! Mr. Panos was the coolest, most down-to-earth teacher I have ever had, God bless him! I would never want to do high school over again! Hence my loathing of anything remotely pertaining to a class reunion! Craziest school memory was my last week of high school as a senior when Kim Rodgers got into a really bad fight with a girl who was a sophomore over a boy! That was a flaming, hot mess! College My freshman year of college was at IUSB while I later attended (but did not finish) at Columbia College Chicago. I will be returning to school to complete my degree in Health Information Technology. Workplace My first job out of high school was working for 1st Source Bank. I went on from there to work for several other banks but also worked as a cashier, shoe salesperson, hotel housekeeper and airport security at the Michiana airport. I ended up working Customer Service shortly after moving to Columbus, OH I worked for Smith Barney, State of Ohio, Safe Auto Insurance Company, Nationwide Insurance Company, Vision Service Plan and Palmetto GBA which is a federal subcontractor to process claims for Medicare.
